Killarney Golf Club was originally founded in 1893, on land belonging to the Earl of Kenmare. In 1936 an alternative location was sought for the Club after a large increase in the rent was demanded. The Club's President, the Viscount Castlerosse was determined to provide Killarney with "the best and most beautiful course in the World", and in 1937, Killarney Golf Club Ltd was formed to build the course at its present location.
Prestigious events which have taken place at Killarney Golf Club include the Irish Open, the Ryder Cup, the European Team Amateur Championship and the Curtis Cup.
Killarney Golf Club has 3 golf courses which are situated 4km from Killarney Royal Hotel, namely Killeen, Lackabane and Mahoneys Point courses. There are also practice facilities available at the club.
